Boudoir Client Guide

Hey there!

You’ve just booked a boudoir session, congratulations!!

I know booking these sessions can sometimes take alot of courage because self-love is so hard to maintain. It’s something I personally struggle with and have my entire life. A huge first step in that journey of self-love is appreciating you for who you are right now; part of that being the body you have right now.

So, weather you booked this session as a gift for your S/O or to remind yourself that you’re absolutely stunning in the body you have I’m so glad you booked this session.

Below are just a few tips to help you feel more prepared going into our session. If after reading through this guide you still have some concerns or questions please feel free to reach out to me and I will be sure to put your mind at ease.

Some tips to help you get ready!

*Reminder before we get started, all of the below tips are just suggestions. The purpose of this shoot is for you to feel beautiful as you are and to have fun. The goal is to have you leave feeling more confident and ultimately to get back images that you LOVE.

Things To Consider

If you’re nervous for our session coming up, try not to be! I know that’s a ton easier said than done, but these sessions are so much fun! Try making a playlist that we can play during our session. Alot of times music can help people to get out of their head and be more in the moment.

Don’t try to be anyone but yourself. Seems like that would be common knowledge, but when you’re a little nervous it’s easy to go WAY over the top. I’m talking more specifically when it comes to hair and makeup for our shoot. Hair services can sometimes be provided for an extra $75 depending on the day that our shoot has been scheduled for, if that is something you would enjoy. Some people love to make the entire day a self love day and treat themselves to a little pampering, and there is nothing wrong with that! There is also nothing wrong with doing your own hair and makeup; just remember to do your hair and makeup in a way that you normally would that makes you feel beautiful. The day of the session is not the time to try a new makeup look, because nine times out of ten it leads to people feeling uncomfortable and takes away from the experience. Makeup can tend to show up darker post edit, so be sure not to over exaggerate your makeup unless that is the look you’re going for.

Prepare, prepare, prepare… I promise getting ready for our session will take longer than you think. So be sure to give yourself all the time you may need, and possibly even then some. It’s always a good idea to free up your morning for the day of the shoot, leave all errands and chores till after our session. It can also be helpful to have set out all of your outfits, shoes, and jewelry that you’d like to wear the night before so you don’t have to waste time searching for these objects the day of.

Know your body. Alot of people think it is best to get waxed or shave the day of the session. However, if you’re someone like me who has sensitive skin, it is much better to wax a couple days before the session. Or to shave the night before so I don’t have red irritation bumps. Even if your hair grows fast a little stubble is better than angry legs.

Remove tags from clothing before the session. Sometimes tags can be easily edited out, other times they can not be edited out properly, and nothing distracts from a beautiful image like a washing tag.

This may be another one that seems like it would be common knowledge but if you’re buying new pieces of lingerie or clothing for the shoot make sure to try them on before the shoot. Make sure you feel confident and beautiful in them. As well as to make sure that you can move around in them and the pieces are not to restricting.

Think about your nails. As silly as that sounds, more often than not we’ll go to start a session and the client realized they meant to get their nails done or wanted to buy fake nails for the session and completely forgot. So here is your reminder, if that is something you would like to do, to set a reminder in your phone, haha. Cause your fingers and toes will be in the images.

The Morning Of

The morning of and possibly even the night before our session I recommend doing some stretches. These sessions require holding poses and propping your body up so it’s always best to feel lose and limber. Stretching beforehand can help make these tasks seem less straining on the body.

Most Boudoir sessions are scheduled for early hours in the day since that is when our stomachs are naturally the flattest. This does not mean to starve yourself or not eat breakfast the day of the shoot. It’s always good to at least have something in your stomach, especially given the fact that you may have some nerves and will be doing different poses and will need your energy. I also suggest bringing a snack for after your session. If you’re worried about bloating the day of just be mindful of foods that may cause extra bloating or food that have alot of unneeded salt that can cause water retention the day before the session.

Some Things to Try and Avoid

The night before and the day of its good to remember to wear loose fitting clothes. We want to try and avoid skin indents caused by elastic bands in things like certain sweatpants or sock. Or even indents from tight jeans or bra wires. I’m giving you the perfect reason to wear comfy clothes all day.

Try to stay away from lingerie with noticeable logos on it as they can be distracting.

Try to remember not to wear watches or hair ties around your wrists the morning of our session.

Most importantly just remember to have fun. This experience should be just as much a great memory to make as it is a beautiful gift or sentiment to yourself or S/O.

I hope after going through these suggestions you feel more at ease and prepared for our session. If all goes as planned, after our shoot you’ll not only get some stunning images back but feel more confident and beautiful in your own skin.

If you have any questions, please feel free to message me. I look forward to working together!
